Freyja is the Ásynja related to sovereignty, abundance, harvest and longevity. She is also related to the sun, the sea, falconry and domestic cat breeding. At Fólkvangr she receives half of the Einherjar, and her hall is called Sessrúmnir. Her brother is Freyr.

Freyja and women’s denomination

In Snorra Edda Freyja is described “as distinguished as Frigg”. In Ynglinga Saga we are told that her name gives rise to the word "Frúvor", which designates “worthy women”. Women of wealth were called by her name and those who were responsible for a home were named "Húsfreyja".
